Best Online Trading Sites for Beginners

The stock market is a scary place, especially lately.  Some people put their total faith and trust in their stock broker, their trading company, or an accountant.  Others like to take a more proactive (and, if you don’t know what you’re doing, dangerous) approach and play around with their own stocks.  Here are some online trading places where you can not only have control of your own stock, but you have a team of professionals standing by to help you.

Options Xpress

Options Express
Just browsing around the site you might be frustrated at how often they try to get you to register, but you can take a pretty comprehensive tour of the site before you do that.  If you choose to use the service, you’ll be privy to a full education suite that will help a beginner get a good idea of how to start online trading.  There is also a customer service live chat if you get confused or anxious about something.

Zecco Trading

Zecco Trading

Zecco Trading is popular, and there is a reason for that.  You can start with any old amount of money, and you get ten free stock trades per month, so pretty much anybody can sign up to do some online trading.  That’s great and all, but if you don’t know what you’re doing it could be, well, disastrous.  Zecco, luckily, has a good customer service center and even a social networking platform.  You know, so you can get advice from people as unknowledgeable as you.  Just kidding.  Some “real” traders use Zecco, too.

ShareBuilder

ING Direct
Powered by ING Direct, ShareBuilder is easy to navigate, easy to join, and easy to start trading.  It’s all in all a really easy site to use, and it has a myriad of customer service offerings.  The rumor is that the customer service reps might take a moment to get you where you need to go (meaning that online trade-savvy folks aren’t manning the phones – a no-no in this industry) but that might have just been a handful of experiences.

E Trade

E Trade
eTrade Financial is a very widely used service, so their website is smooth and user-friendly, and since they are one of the biggest services out there, they have a robust array of offerings.  While not ideally suited for beginners (they sort of assume that you know at least a little bit about online trading) the site is equipped with free education in the form of articles, webinars, and a good FAQ section.  Customer support is good, but you barely need it with all the free education offered.

Choice Trade

Choice Trade
If you’ve got $2000 to start up with and you’re a total beginner, this the perfect site for you.  If you don’t fall into that category, but you are still a total beginner, there are things you can do on this site without buying the total trading package, but you have to ask yourself if that’s what you really want.  Luckily the website is easy to navigate and very straightforward, so you can check it out for yourself.
