Best Etsy Shops – Best Etsy Stores

In today’s homogenized world it is comforting to know that some people still create homemade items with passion, and that people still buy them.  In gift giving, it is always better to give an item that is one-of-a-kind, or at least fairly rare and original.  I always feel a little weird about buying something sold at retail shops like Target or Wal-Mart, or even department stores like Macy’s or Nordstrom’s.  People know where you bought it, you know?

Etsy is a great place to find handmade goods.  Here are few of the best Etsy shops around.  There are, obviously, many wonderful Etsy shops.  This is just a small sample.  If you have others you like, please comment below!

For the $1-$5 price range, I submit Beanforest.  Some might say that novelty buttons are so, like, 1989, but everything returns eventually, and as someone who owns a jean jacket full of buttons and pins, I absolutely adore this site.  These are not your older sister’s novelty buttons.  They’re clever, they’re funny, and they’re a buck.  Can’t beat it.  Which one did I buy?  This one:

OK.  At this point I abandon the price range idea, because all the stuff I want to show you costs more than $5-$25.  Sorry.  We’ll explore more Etsy shops closer to the holidays.  This lady’s jewelry is definitely going on my wish list.  She hand-colors resin and sets it in sterling silver and gold.  Based in Milan, she is a Croatian woman who creates simple, yet beautiful jewelry.  My favorite?

Oh.  My.  Cute!  These adorable knitted baby hats are almost enough incentive to go ahead and have a baby.  Or…not.  But what a wonderful baby gift or shower gift!  The descriptions are cute, too!  The maker lives in North Pole, Alaska, so who better to make fabulous knitted items?

For those of you who are jealous of the cute knitted baby hats, here are some grown-up whimsical hats that tickle my fancy.  They’re pretty expensive, but it might be worth it to have a wool frog hat.  What do you think?

HandmadeMyLove

This shop offers vintage items and vintage-inspired items for the romantic at heart.  The shop is run by three friends who have talents in different arenas, and they make some really beautiful items.  My favorite?

English Pirate

This guy.  How do we love this guy?  Let us count the ways.  If you have a friend who has a penchant for Jack Daniels, say, you can get them a Jack Daniels soap dispenser.  Or, a Jack Daniels lamp.  How cool is that?  Or, say your friend likes the Patron.  Same deal.  Or, if you have a friend who likes a particular type of liquor you don’t see in the English’s Pirate’s shop, email him.  He’ll make it for you.

Resa Smith

As a fan of long, flowy dresses, I am also a fan of Resa Smith and her beautifully made dresses.  Resa is short for Maresa, who has a degree in fashion and creates these one-size-fits-most that I pretty much want in every color.  They are machine-washable (a bonus for those of us who don’t like going to the dry cleaner’s) and so pretty.  My favorite?

  1. Interesting site, i´ll put in my bookmarks. If you need to promote your Etsy shop you must visit this site. http://www.seomaster.etsy.com . Thanks!! Best regards!

  2. This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
